Off-Highway Market Leaders Working with Flybrid

High efficiency flywheel system reduces fuel costs in two ways: recovers energy that would otherwise be wasted and enables smaller, more economical engines to deliver high power when required.

Flybrid is working with some of the leading off-highway equipment manufacturers to achieve significant fuel savings on future generations of off-highway vehicles. Flybrid’s flywheel energy recovery system (ERS) features in two programs currently underway; one with JCB and another recently announced with Turner Powertrain Systems Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc.). Though quite separate, both programs are part government-funded by Innovate UK through the Advanced Propulsion Centre.

Flybrid at Industrial Vehicle Symposium 2016

Flybrid to Showcase Fuel-Saving Technology at Off-Highway and Industrial Vehicle Symposium.

Flybrid will present its flywheel energy recovery system (ERS) at the Electric and Hybrid Industrial Vehicle Technology (EHIVT) Symposium in Cologne on 9-10 November. In a presentation entitled ‘High efficiency flywheel system for hydraulic energy recovery’, Steve Hughes, Flybrid’s Managing Director, and Joanna Brahova, the company’s Business Development Director, will outline the design and development of the system.

APC Funding for Off-Highway Project

Advanced Propulsion Centre Funding for off-highway Project in collaboration with Turner Powertrain System Ltd

Flybrid is pleased to announce the award of funding from the UK’s Advanced Propulsion Centre UK Limited (‘APC’), to work in a co-funded consortium including Turner Powertrain System Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc.) and the University of Hertfordshire on an off-highway project. The award has been made to advance the development and manufacture of a leading low carbon drivetrain with energy storage for a range of off-highway vehicles and machines. The total project value is GBP9.4 million, divided among the consortium members, with an anticipated GBP4.16 million in funding from the APC.
